Overseas Chinese in Xinglong

These 50 years, the returned Indonesian overseas Chinese in Xinglong have not only contributed to the economic construction of the motherland. It also preserves and inherits all Indonesian culture including Indonesian etiquette, Indonesian art song and dance culture, Indonesian costume culture and Indonesian food culture. These Indonesian cultures are completely rooted in the returned overseas Chinese . Under the guidance of Du Tianjiang and his wife and Zhuhai Xu Jianping (who is also from Xinglong), I visited the Xinglong Market, saw the motorized BEJA (tricycle), and appreciated Indonesia. Coffee culture, the Indonesian returned overseas Chinese who met along the way spoke fluent Indonesian to talk to me, and felt that being in Xinglong was like returning to Indonesia. The Indonesian culture is still strongly preserved and inherited on the Chinese soil, which is touching and touching. This is my reprinted Zhang Liukun Qiaoyou speech heartfelt, and we hope to share together. ( Wong Tie Kong/Wong Tie Kong , Jiangmen City )

Contributions of returned Indonesian overseas Chinese to Xinglong (Xinglong Zhang Liukun)

Fifty years ago today, a group of overseas Chinese from the Aceh Province of Sumatra, Indonesia, took the Norwegian ship Helios to take the overseas Chinese to Haikou, South Island.

1960 Nian 8 Yue 28 Ri, Rewrote our history. Since then, we have started a new life in the embrace of the motherland — Hainan Island. I spent 50 spring and autumn in Xinglong Overseas Chinese Farm on this island .

Like us, 1960 there were more than 2000 returned Indonesian Chinese came to Xinglong Overseas Chinese Farm settlement. Over the past 50 years, Indonesian returned overseas Chinese, together with other returned overseas Chinese and employees of Xinglong, have devoted their life to the socialist construction of Xinglong Overseas Chinese Farm. The performance of returned Indonesian overseas Chinese and other returned overseas Chinese and employees will be recorded in the annals of history.

On the occasion of commemorating the 50th anniversary of the return of Indonesian overseas Chinese from Xinglong Overseas Chinese Farm, I just want to summarize the contribution of Indonesian returned overseas Chinese to Xinglong:

The arrival of returned overseas Chinese in Indonesia for the development of the booming add 2000 more than workers. Before 1960 , the labor force in Xinglong was only a few thousand. As soon as the Indonesian returned overseas Chinese set foot on this hot land, they immediately joined the labor force that opened up wasteland to grow rubber, pepper, coffee, and rice. Decades of hard work has tempered them. They went from being a small businessman who couldn’t carry on their shoulders, and became expert laborers. Nowadays, the tropical crops such as rubber and pepper planted by them are creating wealth for the farm. Xinglong’s development is attributed to the Indonesian returned overseas Chinese.

Two / arrival of returned overseas Chinese in Indonesia, is booming in Indonesia has brought good customs. We know that Indonesia is a country that advocates etiquette, and the Indonesian people pay attention to the moral relationship between people. The overseas Chinese in Indonesia have been getting along with the Indonesian people for a long time, and they have been influenced by them and learned many fine customs and living habits. In Xinglong, people’s evaluations of returned Indonesians are: honest, cautious, unwilling to quarrel with others, do not speak foul language, and be polite to others. Keep your mouth shut, terima kasih! Pay attention to hygiene and family harmony.

It is generally believed that the quality of Xinglong people in Hainan is relatively high, which is inseparable from the good family education of Indonesian returned overseas Chinese and other returned overseas Chinese and the social atmosphere formed with it.

Three / arrival of returned overseas Chinese in Indonesia, it is booming bringing various cultures in Indonesia.

1.             Indonesian art and culture, mainly singing and dancing culture. Today in the booming Indonesian song, Indonesian dance dance has been for the public to know and love, you want to hear the Songs of Indonesia and dance , any time someone can show you.

2.             Indonesian dress culture. Few people in Xinglong saw salons nd Batik clothes before 1960 . After returning Indonesian overseas Chinese came to Xinglong, people often saw some returned Indonesian women ( en jim ) wearing salons , as well as men, women and children wearing Batik . Before, people didn’t know what a bantal guling is and what a kasur is. After the Indonesian returnees came, they often took out the pillows and mattresses to bask in the sun. The locals asked what they were used for. of? During the Xinglong Corps, an army chief came to the conclusion after learning about it: “Those who sleep on a pillow have a bad style.” Today, throughout Xinglong and even throughout China, pillows and mattresses have become commodities and have been generally accepted by people. Everyone feels very good. After the corps was disbanded, when many military family members left Xinglong, they asked the Indonesian overseas Chinese to make pillows and kapok mattresses and take them back to their hometowns.

3.             Indonesian food culture. At the beginning of returning home, there were only hair cakes and carrot cakes in Xinglong. In 1964 , when food supply improved , only fried dough sticks and glutinous rice dumplings were available. Local farmers also only brought out cassava pancakes and piles of glutinous rice with coconut silk cake. There are no other tricks that the Xinglong people will make during the festivals except for the rice cakes and fried oil corners. In 1960 , the returned Indonesian overseas Chinese brought Indonesian pastry making techniques and passed them on to other returned overseas Chinese and employees without reservation. Nowadays, most of the people in Xinglong have mastered the craftsmanship of Indonesian pastry and enriched the food culture of Xinglong. People will make seven-layer cakes ( kue lapis ) glutinous rice sticks /lemper) , taran cakes ( kue talam ), golden cakes (love cakes). /kue ambon ), coconut glutinous ( dodol ), kue semprong , kang pie ( kue semprit), etc. Since the 1960s, before the Spring Festival, every family in Xinglong has been busy making Indonesian pastries as a must Prepare for the New Year. In Xinglong, this is a sign of the countdown to the Spring Festival, indicating that the Spring Festival is approaching and presents a festive atmosphere. Hainan’s “Nanguo”, “Chunguang” and other big brand food manufacturers also produce various Indonesian cakes and cakes for sale in the market. In Xinglong’s markets and coffee shops, you can buy and eat a variety of Indonesian pastries at any time.

Returned Indonesians also brought lemongrass (Xinglong called Fengmao/serei ), curry leaves ( daun salam ), yellow ginger ( kungit ), and pandan leaves (daun pandan) back from Indonesia to plant them. With these tools for making Indonesian dishes and pastries Essential spices, they are handy to make. Nowadays in Xinglong, anyone can cook one or two Indonesian dishes. You can have several Indonesian dishes at any time in many restaurants and restaurants; “kari ajam” (curry chicken), “rendang” (Patong beef), ” “gado gado” , “lode”, etc. to choose from. You can also eat ” jendol”  in coffee shops and cold drinks shops in the market . Indonesian food has become popular in Xinglong, and it is quite common. So when we taste and appreciate Indonesian food, please don’t forget the ancestors of Xinglong Indonesian food, now the returned Indonesian overseas Chinese who are now dying.

In short, the arrival of the returned overseas Chinese in Indonesia brought civilization, prosperity and hope to Xinglong.

Today, it is not easy for us to gather here to commemorate the 50th anniversary of returning to China. This kind of commemoration is the first and last time for the returned Indonesian overseas Chinese present. We no longer have time or opportunity to meet again to commemorate the 100th anniversary of our return to China. Of course, our descendants can commemorate. So this year’s celebration, because it is the only time in our lives, is particularly important and meaningful.
