A visit should also be paid to the establishment of Messrs. Cornfield. This business was founded by the late W. Cornfield in 1892 and is conducted by his sons as outfitters and general merchants. The firm are the official suppliers to the various sultans, and make a speciality of superior diamond jewellery of every description, although their stock includes well selected continental fancy goods, pictures and also the latest modes.
The most important tailoring and outfitting establishment in Medan is that of Cornfield Bros., established in 1892 by the late Mr. W. Cornfield. The best customers in the town go to Cornfield’s, and among the firm’s patrons are the members of the family of the Sultan of Deli. The principal buying agents in Europe are Messrs. Alexander Young, Ltd., London, and Dormenil Frères, of Paris and London.
Cornfield’s Stores always hold as complete a range of cloths as the average European tailor, and the chief cutter is quite a clever expert. The present proprietors are Messrs. . A. L. and E. Cornfield, sons of the founder of the firm. In addition to the premier business, Cornfield’s Stores also conduct a considerable trade, in gold, silver, and bronze goods, household furniture, lamps, and pictures.
