What the Indische Veem and the Batavia Veem are to Java, the Naamlooze Vennootschap Deliveem is to Sumatra. The company was founded in 1913 with a capital of F. 100,00. The head office at ” is installed on the most up- to- date lines and located near the railway, with large godowns attached. Other go- downs, all of recent construction, have been established at Belawan, Tandjong Balei (Asahan), Langsa, and Kwala Langsa. The success achieved has proved very gratifying, as the Deliveem today handles the important business concerns of the colony. The policy of the firm is entirely progressive, and businesses of repute are being rapidly acquired. The godowns of the company include one of 6, ooo square feet in Medan and one of 4,600 square feet in Belawan. It also has a 2,400 square feet and a 6oo square feet godown at Tandjong Balei, and one of 1,200 square feet at Langsa. Mr. Th. Ligthart is the manager, and there are 10 European employees and 6o native assistants. Stevedoring business is done on a large scale, and the firm conducts much forwarding and shipping trade, also insurance.

This enterprising limited liability company, which is a very large import and export organization, has branches at Medan and Belawan in Sumatra, and at Batavia, Semarang, and Sourabaya in Java. It was first established at Penang, where the proprietor is still managing: In the near future it is intended to extend the operations of the concern in Sumatra, and also to establish a branch in Celebes. The company deals largely in rubber, but it also handles great volumes of other exportable produce, and its imports have a wide range. In addition, it represents several shipping companies.
