Wang Jinming, male, a returned Indonesian overseas Chinese, is 68 years old. He once worked at Ninghua Quanshang Overseas Chinese Farm. He is one of 41 young Indonesian heroes.
My ancestral home is in Yongchun, Fujian. But he was born in Duanbuganbu, Subei Province, Indonesia. His parents are small businessmen. Although there are 12 sons and daughters in the family, their parents do not give up their education. Although we live in a foreign country, we still love our motherland deeply. From elementary school to high school, my parents kept me enrolling in Huaqiao School. They often educate us that we are descendants of Yan and Huang, and we must not forget our culture and language. I am deeply influenced by my parents and I love my motherland deeply. I hope that I will return to China after my academic achievements and contribute to the construction of the motherland. With this goal, I have been diligent and studious since the first day of school, with excellent grades. In the early 1960s, I was admitted to the Medan Overseas Chinese Middle School, and I was elected as the council member and vice chairman of the morning class student union in my first year of high school.
At that time, the political situation was unstable, and when I was in the third grade of high school, the school was closed. At that time, a large number of overseas Chinese from Aceh Province were driven to Medan City. A group of student activists used the three-story student dormitory and auditorium of Medan Overseas Chinese Middle School. Therefore, we arranged for refugees to live in the entire dormitory and auditorium so that the refugees have a place to rest. Prepare for voluntary return to the motherland.
On October 10, the military and political authorities took photos of the refugees in the dormitory to show that the Indonesian government was not mistreating the Chinese minority. The students resisted by grabbing the cameras.
8 and 33 key students and family members of the refugees were arrested.
They were forcibly removed to the Medan base headquarters, tortured with rifle stocks, belts, punches and kicks, beaten to the head and wounded all over. But no one wavered his conviction and position. Instead, life and blood have been used to maintain the dignity of the motherland and the legitimate rights and interests of overseas Chinese.
We were illegally detained for 40 days, during which we battled our wits with Indonesian military officers. In addition to the 6-day hunger strike, we also jointly wrote a letter of tribute to Chairman Mao. Eleven young women spontaneously embroidered a red flag with five golden characters “Long live Chairman Mao”. Everyone also worked together to make a huge five-pointed star with a circular relief statue of Chairman Mao in the middle, surrounded by 41 little red stars. After that, I wrote the song “Our Oath” together, and collectively composed poems such as “The Song of the Prisoner” and “We Are Not a Prisoner” written by me.
Our efforts have attracted great attention from the leaders of Chairman Mao, Premier Zhou and other countries. After repeated negotiations by the Chinese government, under international pressure, the Indonesian authorities were forced to release us. Later, I learned that because of this, we were called “Indonesia’s 41 young overseas Chinese heroes.”

Received by Premier Zhou
On November 18, 1966, the staff of relevant departments mobilized my parents to return to China with me. A year ago, my house was damaged by a mob. The family’s property was looted. My mother was forced to pull out of bed by the mob in her sleep in the middle of the night. Later, she discovered that her thigh was broken, but she never sighed us. It was not until after returning to China that he was taken care of by the government and arranged to receive treatment at Quan Thirty Hospital. On November 20th, 41 overseas Chinese youths were directly escorted from prison to Belawan Port and went straight to the Guanghua Ferry. After seven days and seven nights of turbulence and more than a thousand overseas Chinese who returned home voluntarily, they returned to the embrace of their relatives and finally returned to the motherland from Indonesia.
After disembarking from Zhanjiang, Guangdong, 40 other comrades in arms and I came to Beijing on December 27th. This is the first time in my life that I have been to Beijing.
I clearly remember that in addition to Liao Chengzhi, Lin Xiude, Yao Zhongming and other responsible persons, there are more than 1,500 Beijing people who are welcome. This exciting moment has become a memory of my life. The party and the people’s government held a gathering of ten thousand people in the Great Hall of the People to welcome us and the representatives of the overseas Chinese. Premier Zhou Enlei cordially received and asked us what we think. We all agreed that we are willing to go to the impoverished mountainous area for re-education. At this time, Premier Zhou was full of passion to recite Chairman Mao’s poems, like a dream to order “New Year’s Day.” When “Ninghua, Qingliu, Guihua, roads and forests with deep moss slippery…”, we were attracted by the words “Ninghua”. They all expressed their willingness to go to Ninghua, an old revolutionary base. In the end, we were placed on the Overseas Chinese Farm in Ninghuaquan.
On April 3, 1967, 40 comrades in arms and I came to Ninghua with enthusiasm. I remember that the farm was a barren mountain and ridge. We lived in a low bungalow surrounded by a yellow mud road. When it rained, the entire road was covered. It is yellow mud. On the second day, we will join the group of returned overseas Chinese who are “digging deep and accumulating food”. We are not afraid of hardship and tiredness. Starting from the ordinary production team members, after several years of forging, they were elected by the masses as the production team leader, from the production team leader to the deputy team leader of the brigade department. Incorporated into the tenth company of the second division and tenth regiment of the Production and Construction Corps and was elected as the deputy company commander of the tenth company. The instructors and company commanders are all military uniformed PLA troops sent by the Corps.
For nearly ten years of training on the farm, he was nominated by the masses to take the Ninghua County University Examination. After selection and passing the examination, he was admitted to the Department of Political Education of Fujian Normal University. During the university, I continued to learn professional knowledge, participated in social research, and made a lot of progress. Three years later, due to work needs, I was transferred back to Fujian Ninghuaquan to teach at the farm. During the period, it was determined that Xiao Tan, a comrade-in-arms who shared life and death, became a life-long partner. Later, after graduating from university, she stayed at Xiamen University to teach. After marriage, due to separation in two places, when my third brother returned from Indonesia to visit us, he specially applied to the relevant authorities and hoped that we would be reunited in Hong Kong.
When we came to Hong Kong, we started a new starting point. We have experienced the work of shipping clerk and tourism trade clerk. After several years of hard work, we have finally established a foothold in Hong Kong and built a bridge between China and Indonesia in non-governmental tourism trade. I made a lot of new friends and made some achievements until I retire. Then I joined the ranks of volunteers of the Hong Kong Indonesian Studies Institute. It has been 12 spring and autumn so far. The members of the Institute and I are committed to researching and promoting friendly exchanges between Chinese and Indian people, participating in various non-governmental diplomatic activities, organizing various forums, and constantly Promote and expand cultural exchanges between China and India, and hope that in the aftermath of the sunset, we will devote a heart to love, not forget our original aspirations, and keep our mission in mind! Don’t be old, work hard!
Recalling the past, my wife Tan Xiaoxiao often said that the Overseas Chinese Farm in Ninghuaquan is a big cradle and has cultivated batches of talents. This is the supreme glory of the Overseas Chinese Farm. For her, it was the farm that allowed her to go to college, and the farm nurtured her. She would like to thank the cradle of the farm for nurturing her.
This is the third time I have set foot on this homeland of Ninghua and returned to the hometown of dreams. There are new changes every time I come back, which makes me feel sincerely happy. The reform and opening up has made great achievements that are visible and tangible. It has also achieved the spiritual sustenance of our overseas Chinese. It has also given us the motivation to move forward. Thanks to the strong support of China’s overseas Chinese affairs departments at all levels, let us The opportunity to play the role of a forerunner in the development of the times. In the future, we old overseas Chinese will actively participate in community activities, make due contributions to the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong in different positions, and will also contribute our modest contribution to the development and construction of our hometown.
