Great interest from all circles.
This morning, under great interest, the marriage was solemnized in the Roman Catholic Church on the Paleisweg between Miss Tjong Sce Yin, daughter of the late Major of the Chinese, Tjong A Fie, and Mr. M. Lemye, accountant at the Société Financière and Belgian vice-consul in this city. After the wedding ceremony, a well-attended reception was held at the home of Mrs. Tjong A Fie-Lim on Kesawan. Numerous guests took the opportunity to offer their congratulations to the bride (who was dressed in white satin) and the groom.
The spacious residence of the bride’s mother was decorated with white carnations and gerberas, while a wealth of flower arrangements adorned every corner. The many beautiful wedding gifts, displayed on a table, attracted considerable attention. The guests moved through the large rooms of the house, which from time to time were filled with the cheerful music played by a Chinese band.
The children of Miss Sulter’s Froebel School, dressed in festive outfits, pleasantly surprised the couple with a collectively spoken congratulatory message. Mrs. Botterweg sang a fitting song. Among the attendees were noticed: the mayor of Medan, Mr. Pitlo, the chief commissioner of police, Mr. Halkema, the Chinese consul, Mr. Wang, the British consul, Mr. Henderson, the American consul, Mr. Brown, and the Major of the Chinese, Mr. Khoe Tjin Tek.
The reception, which began at 10 a.m., ended at 11 a.m. after a photograph was taken of the bride, groom, and guests. Mr. and Mrs. Lemye will depart this afternoon aboard the “Dempo” for a three-month trip to Europe.
